Shepherdsville, Kentucky -- Part 2 (1975 - 1976)

We now felt we were retired ministers, but in the fall of 1975, Rev. Sypolt, the District Superintendent, called to tell us that Shepherdsville was again without a pastor, and would we move over to the parsonage and assume full pastoral duties?  It had been ten years since Bro. Bolender had resigned the pastorate because of severe hearing loss.  After prayerful consideration he replied that we would go, providing the church would accept me as pastor.  In that event I felt I was entitled to a voice so I required that Bro. Bolender serve as assistant pastor.  These requirements were agreed to and we did what we never expected to do again.  But we moved to the nice new parsonage that Bro. Bolender had taken the first offering and pledges to build.  As I write this Ecclesiastes 11:1 comes to mind; in Uncle Buddy Robinson’s version, “Cast thy bread upon the waters and it will come back with butter on it.”  It was good to renew fellowship with the faithful ones we had served and to add some new ones.

I was elected as zone chairlady of the Louisville Zone Women’s Missionary Society.  This was a delightful service and I received marvelous cooperation.  As Pastor I felt properly in place to ask my “assistant” to bring the morning messages, which he usually did.  I opened and directed all business meetings and officially signed all reports and transactions, but he certainly was chief advisor.  We had a good year with a well-planned and conducted V.B.S. and two revival meetings with some victories.
